Week Three

What an amazing time we had last week when we went to see Stu Deval. All the children were just transfixed. The talent of being able to have all the children hanging on your next word, with no props other than the picture you have drawn is truly amazing. Stu certainly showed us a new "art" the art of story telling, his visit fitted in so well with our big topic.
Haruto, Rhys, Shae and Tukara enjoying the water play at J.E.T time.

All of our new children in Room 1 are quickly settling into the new routines - there is so much to learn as you begin school, the classroom routines, how to respond and participate to activities such as aerobics and singing.
Shae, Dylan and Kaiya, enjoying the bubbles,
Aria and Mariesha are busy drawing with the chalk in the background.

On Wednesday we have Liz Fitzsimons visiting our room, Liz is an ICT tutor, who will come into the room and teach the children new skills along with setting a challenge for them to complete before she next visits in June.

This week we will continue to complete our art based activity around the "Elmer the Elephant" books. Our maths focus in Room 1 is number order and reading the numbers. The sound of the week is Jj and the word of the week is "go."

Have a great week.

Week 1

What a great start to the term that we have had. All the children have settled well into the routines. It has also been great to welcome Isabelle, Karnia, Kaiya and Dylan into our room. Those older children who have been going to Room 5 in the mornings have also adjusted quickly to new routines.
Some of the children exploring Shapes for our geometry maths focus.

Our big topic for this term is 'the art's'. As part of this next week (on Thursday) we will be lucky to see Stu Duval, an artist and story teller. He will also be holding a session on Thursday evening for families if they wish to attend. I know those who were able to attend his sessions when he visited the school a few years ago thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Isabelle drew a picture of herself then she wrote 'I am Isabelle'.

Noah and Aria enjoyed exploring the shapes.

Rhys, Lucy and Mariesha practised writing the letter 'p' on the white boards.

Next week, Room 1's sound of the week will be 'v' and our word of the week will be 'the'. Maths number changeovers will begin again for the term. Some children will be swapping rooms so that they are in a room teaching them at a level that is appropriate to their understanding.

Have a great learning  week ahead.
