Week 9

Week 9 is shaping up to be another busy learning week. On Monday we will be very lucky to have the art adviser Rei Hendry take a art session with us. She will be in Room 1 for a 1 1\2 hour block. The theme of our art will be based around the Matariki Festival.

Thursday night from 5.30-6.30pm we will be holding our Matariki Evening. This is a fun event, but children do need to be accompanied by an adult, as there will be fires etc. The evening will be very casual, with activities dotted around the school. Could you please let your classroom teacher know numbers, ( for sausage sizzle numbers)

This coming week our sound of the week will be Nan
Our word of the week will be 'and'
The maths focus continues to be algebra.

Lenge and Kaiya enjoy being inside our nice warm room on cold days.

Enjoy the learning week ahead.

Week 8

The weather last week certainly wasn't the best towards the end of the week, but it didn't stop any of our learning experience from happening.

We had a great time with Liz Fitzsimons (an ict tutor) who came in to assist the children with new skills. The children were drawing a leaf in the paint program, colouring it and the background, then naming it. All good skills to know, but it also helps them with their skills to control the mouse.

Logan enjoys working on the computer.

On Friday at art time, we continued this idea by drawing trees, then filling in the background with a variety of different colours.

Friday we had 'altogether'  J.E.T. For the some of the younger children, asking to join in with older children is not easy, but after modelling for them how to do this, all of the children were busy in other rooms with older children.
Mariesha is hanging up her marble art to dry.

Jacob is having fun with the duplo.

After lunch we carried on with our 'arts' changeovers. The children move from room to room. Each room has a different 'art' to explore. Music, dance, and drama, they all enjoy giving them a go.

This week for maths we begin learning about another of the strands , algebra, looking at patterns .
Our word of the week is look, and our sound is Bb.

Have a great week.

Week 6

We have had lots of fun learning about the letter Dd this week. Today we made dinosaurs out of coloured paper.

JET time saw us painting with marbles, painting outside with water, dressing up, and creating with some old pieces of sticky felt.

Our Classroom is looking so good with our wonderful work hanging up all around the wall.

Thank you everyone for your hard work and great learning this week,
(remember to keep learning your words and letter names and sounds)

Week 6

The week just seems to have flown past. All the children enjoyed making their ladybird headbands (ladybird begins with 'l') We also went outside on Wednesday and watched the classrooms being moved onto the Fairhaven site. The children were fascinating to see how the trucks squeezed down the narrow driveway.
Friday saw us have lots of fun at J.E.T time. They especially enjoyed making paper chains and creating on the materials table. Many of the children enjoyed creating on the computers.
Rhys,Noah and Karnia enjoying using the interactive whiteboard.

Aria, Kaiya and Lenge busy making the paper chains.
Friday afternoon we began changeovers between some of the classrooms to explore our art's topic. In Room 1 the children explored chopsticks music, in Room 2 they learn about creative dance, and in Room 3, drama was the topic, exploring and moving to the story of 'Where the wild things are.' Everyone had lots of fun.
This week our sound of the week is 'Dd'
Our word of the week is 'going.'
The room 1 maths focus is ordering numbers to 10.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.

Week Five

The long weekend has just flown by, I do hope you have all managed to have a relaxing break.

Last week was a very busy learning week. The children all adjusted well to our smaller class size for the whole day.

The children all especially enjoyed having all together J.E.T. on Friday. This means that during our exploration time Rooms 1 through to 6 all join in together, usually it is just room 1 ,2 and 5.
We completed our Elmer the Elephants   ( from the books of the same name) along with creating a Nickle Nackle tree from the Lynley Dodd story. We used circle art to decorate our special tree.

It is wonderful to see the children trying hard to remember the letter names and sounds along with the word of the week.

This week our sound of the week is Ll
Our word is " we"
Our maths focus continues to be finger patterns that associate with numbers to 10.

Enjoy the learning week ahead.
