Week 8

Oh my!!!! Where oh where has the term gone?

I have been so very proud of the Room1 children this week. They were all so amazingly responsible and resilient during our first ever school swim. We had no tears and every one was prepared to give it a go at their skill level. What a shame that the rain came and it meant we only had 1swim this week. Fingers crossed for next week?
Room 1 had a picnic lunch on a rainy day.

The children then blew me away with their wonderful manners, and approach to out junior market day. During J.E.T each Friday we practise the key competencies, these are skills to assist us in life. At market time these key competencies of managing ourselves and within that, taking turns came to the fore. Children thought about what they wanted to buy, then they waited patiently for the product to be available, independently they formed cues, without any teacher intervention. Wow!!!
Marley counted his money carefully before buying.

Maia looking after one of our produce tables.

All children managed their money well, and on reflection time in the class we talked about value for money, were we happy with our purchases?

This week we will be our last week of formal reading before the holidays. A stock take of all books will take place -
'Wow, look what I bought!'

Our sound of the week will be Jj
Our words of the week will be 'she' and 'he'
Our maths focus is shape names and attributes.

Have a great week

Week 6

It is so hard to believe that we are going into week 6. Last week we looked at the letter /sound Cc. We had lots of fun making cats from the letter C cut out of paper plates.

Jet time was lots of fun as always. Our focus was to manage ourselves, and ask if we wanted to take a turn.

Fishing for objects in the water tray.

Spinning in the Dizzy Lizzy is lots of fun.

This week our sound of the week will be 'Rr'
Our word will be either look or said
Our maths focus is 'what number comes next?'

Have a great learning week.

Week 5

It has been a busy few weeks. I have begun testing the older children in preparation for accumulating information on their learning levels.
All the children have enjoyed making our pet rocks in preparation for selling at our junior school market day. The children have been earning Bled Dollars ready to use to buy products from the other classes. The children have all exchanged some of their one dollar bleds for two dollar bless.

The boys enjoy working together on the I-pad to help their learning.

Flying our letter Hh helicopters was lots of fun.

Chopsticks music helps us develop rhythm and beat.

This week our sound of the week will be 'C'
Our words of the week will be 'come' and 'and'. Different groups will have different words.
Our maths focus is number order, which number comes next?

Have a great learning week.

Week 1 Term 4

What a great start we have had to new term. It is great to welcome Mrs Wyman into our class and our school. The children have all remembered our routines and have quickly got back into learning mode.

We have begun our new topic, 'To market, to market'   by making wallets to keep in our chair bags. We will keep our bled dollars that we earn in these wallets. Later in the term, after we have made some products to sell, we will be able to buy products that other classes have made, with our bled dollars.

Please remember that next week is a short week so we will, do formal reading for 3days and treat Thursday as a Friday.

Our sound of the week is Bb
Our word of the week is 'to'
Our maths focus will be numbers that come after, and before.

Wow Shayden, how clever writing our word of the week all by yourself, well done!

Lucy and Karina enjoyed using our shop during J.E.T time.

Mercedes had fun making a walkie talkie with the wood and milk bottle tops.

Have a great learning week ahead.

Week 9

Sarge using the iPad to take a photo of his puzzle.

Wade taking a 'selfie'.

Another busy term is quickly coming to a close. The children continue to impress me with there learning. They have all made great gains with their learning, especially with their reading writing and math skills. All of the children have enjoyed about hot and cold, a highlight being ourntripmto the Faraday Centre and our experiments using ice and heat.

Sadly the end of term also sees the end of Miss Woods placement from teachers college. The children and I will all miss her hugely. We wish her well for her future teaching career.

All classrooms have been allocated an I-pad. Below are some photos that the children have taken of their classmates using the I-pad.

Relax and enjoy the holiday break.

I look forward to seeing you all ready for learning next term.

Week 7

The children were all very excited to visit the Life Education caravan on Thursday.

They were all eager to take part in the sessions. Being a V.I.P. was the message that they all received, and how to look after themselves .

We learnt about what our body needs to stay healthy.

We met Anne and she told us about what we were going to learn about.

Tam is a model of what our body looks like inside , we learnt about the important parts of our body
and what they do for us.
Next week our sound of the week will be ' Mm'
Our word of the week is 'the'

We will all look forward to going to the caravan to see Anne and Harold again.

Have a great week ahead.

Week 6

What an exciting time we have over the past two weeks. Our visit to the Faraday Centre was lots of fun and we all experienced lots of great experiments.

Activities at the Faraday Centre

The wind machine was a favourite activity.

Miss Woods had us doing some amazing experiments with ice, salt and food colouring.

The firemen came to visit and taught us how to 'get down, get low and get out fast!" in an emergency.

Face painting for the Magpies Day. Thank you to Sophie's mum for coming to help.

A busy exciting learning time.

Week 4

A big welcome this past week to our 4 new children. They have all quickly settled into our class routines and it is great to have them join our class.

Monday will be an exciting day as we head off on our trip to the Faraday Centre, looking at things relating to 'hot and cold'.
Making the umbrellas for our art was fun.

What fun we had with our experiment, when we froze a glass jar full to the top of water. The children were all amazed that the ice 'grew bigger' when it froze, but also that it shattered the glass. They were just a interested in watching the ice melt and with it the jar break into pieces.

Miss Woods planned a great art session for us about umbrellas, which look fabulous. They will be up on display shortly.
Learning on the mat is part of our busy day.

This coming week our word of the week is 'can.'
Our sound of the week is 'Cc'
And our maths focus is numbers, using a number mat to help our learning.

Have a great week.

Week Three

I say it each week, but what a busy learning week we have had. The children are all trying hard to learn the word of the week and their bank of known sight words is increasing. These sight words are so important in the process of learning how to read and to write.

The children enjoyed walking around as a class during Spooner Shield day, having a look at some of the games and how busy our school grounds were. We then came back to class and discussed what we had seen before we began to write about this.

It is wonderful to have Emma Woods, a student teacher from Victoria University working in our room. The children (and myself) are enjoying having another teacher in the room.

Below I have included some photos of the children sharing some of the activities we do to reinforce learning of the sound and word of the week.
Karnia has made playdough numbers.

Dylan has matched magnetic letters to word outlines

Isabelle and Lucy are using the computers to help their reading skills.

Wade has completed a worksheet and is pasting it into his word book.

School photos will be taken on Tuesday, if you wish to purchase these, payment must be given to Sharyn on Monday.

Next week our word of the week is 'went.'
The sound of the week is 'a'
Our maths focus is numbers to 10 or 20.
Have a great learning week ahead.

Week 2

A collage of J.E.T activities
What an amazing week we have had weather wise and learning wise.

Sadly , but also excitingly, on Monday 5 children will be moving through to room 5.
Numbers are starting to build up again in Room 1, hence the push through. Although they have moved room number we will  still see them often.

Monday we are also very lucky to have Emma Woods, a student teacher at Victoria University on placement working in Room 1 alongside myself. It will be great to have her joining our room till the end of the term.

Thank you to those parents who have returned the  Faraday trip note and the $4.10 for our upcoming trip. Hopefully we will have these all returned soon.

The week ahead will be a busy one. Thursday is Spooner Shield Day. This is a huge event where many school from the nearby region visit with their year 5and 6 sports teams to compete for the prestigious Spooner Shield. For Junior school children it is school as usually, but it does mean that there are a lot of cars in the car park, and the courts are not available for parking on before school.
Bledisloe PTA uses this event as a fund raiser by selling morning teas. A paper plate will come home prior to the event . If you are able to bake a cake, biscuits, muffins etc the PTA ( and school) would be extremely grateful

Our sound of the week will be 'Yy'
Our word of the week is 'we'.
The maths focus is numbers to 10 or 20.

J.E.T time is always fun and provides some great photo opportunities.

Week 1

We have had a great start to the term. Welcome to Sophie who started school on Thursday, also to Wade who began the last week of term 2. The children are all excited about our up coming trip to The Faraday Centre, ( this is to do with our new topic, hot and cold) the note for this trip went home on Friday.

We had a great J.e.t time on Friday. The children all enjoyed the variety of activities - especially as the weather was not so great.

Rhys was busy designing a mask.

Lucy and Isabelle also enjoyed making a mask.

Our sound of the week for week 2 is 'Nn'
Our word of the week is 'come.'
Our maths focus will be to correctly write the digits for numbers.

Last weeks maths focus was weight.

Aria found something that was heavier than a book.

Wade thought that the play dough was heavier than a pen.

Next week we will be having a busy week with Rita Palmer the literacy advisor visiting as well as Dinah Harvey the maths advisor. It is great to have these people visiting and assisting with the lessons that we take.

Enjoy the week ahead

Week 10

This term has just flown by. The children have all impressed me so much with the progress that they have made with both their learning and settling into school routines.

So many exciting things have happened this term. Some highlights have been Stu Duval the story teller visiting, Matariki night, Rei Hendry (art adviser) Dinah Harvey,(maths adviser) and Rita Palmer, (literacy adviser). Dress up day this week was lots of fun, along with the sausage sizzle.

Have a relaxing enjoyable break.

Week 9

Week 9 is shaping up to be another busy learning week. On Monday we will be very lucky to have the art adviser Rei Hendry take a art session with us. She will be in Room 1 for a 1 1\2 hour block. The theme of our art will be based around the Matariki Festival.

Thursday night from 5.30-6.30pm we will be holding our Matariki Evening. This is a fun event, but children do need to be accompanied by an adult, as there will be fires etc. The evening will be very casual, with activities dotted around the school. Could you please let your classroom teacher know numbers, ( for sausage sizzle numbers)

This coming week our sound of the week will be Nan
Our word of the week will be 'and'
The maths focus continues to be algebra.

Lenge and Kaiya enjoy being inside our nice warm room on cold days.

Enjoy the learning week ahead.
